About Bonny Lass Flowers

Hi, I’m Louise, the owner and founder of Bonny Lass Flowers, an independent florist based in Wideopen, Newcastle upon Tyne.

My journey into floristry evolved rather than following a direct path. My original passion was nursing, I hold a university degree in the subject, but balancing a career alongside raising a young family led me into early years education, where I worked for over a decade.

Eventually, I decided to follow my heart and enrol on a floristry course at college. I’d always had the itch to do it, but like many people in their mid-30s, I found it easier to put myself off. With a supportive family around me, I finally took the leap and I’ve loved every second since.

My creative mind and love of flowers allow me to put my own stamp on my work, while my listening skills help me understand exactly what clients need. I believe flowers form an integral part of every occasion, as one of the area’s trusted funeral florists in Newcastle, I always aim to create designs that carry meaning and comfort.

I also run regular workshops for different seasonal events - from pumpkin floral arranging to Christmas wreath making and private parties. I love sharing my knowledge in a relaxed, friendly environment (which often involves a tipple or two!) at venues across the North East. These occasions are a great way for friends, families or teams to come together, get creative, and take home their own handmade masterpiece.

I use locally grown flowers wherever possible, along with environmentally friendly mechanics — biodegradable or reusable — and I’m mindful of the carbon footprint of all our supplies. Having lived in the community for more than 20 years, it’s a pleasure to support local people. From the happiness of finding a “lonely bouquet,” to receiving free flowers through our “look after others” campaign, to contributing to local charity work — being part of our community here in Newcastle upon Tyne is something I truly value.
